2014 World Challenge Day, jointly organized by the Macao Sport Development Board and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau and co-organized by the Health Bureau, was hosted on 28th May. The competing city this year is Novi Sad of Serbia, a city with a population of over 330,000.
As a global event organized by The Association for International Sports for All (TAFISA) and Asiania Sport for All Association (ASFAA), the World Challenge Day takes each city as a unit, and grouping is made according to the total population of the participating cities and competing cities will be determined through balloting by TAFISA. The winner will be the city with a higher ratio (to the total population) of people completing any form of exercises for 15 minutes consecutively on that day.
To encourage active participation of residents, the organizers have launched a series of promotional events and will open their leisure facilities for free public use on the World Challenge Day. In addition, they have specially arranged recreational activities and performances in Iao Hon Park Square and Leal Senado Square, as well as providing physical fitness monitoring service.
Due to the overwhelming response and strong supports from governmental departments, institutions, businesses, associations, schools and from all social sectors, with the total number of participants reaching 264,176, which is the highest record over the previous years, Macao was declared as the winner of this year.
