The Venetian Macau Open 2014, co-hosted by the Macau Sport Development Board of the Macao S.A.R. Government and the Golf Association of Macao, is jointly authorised by the Asian Tour and the Golf Association of Macao. The Venetian Macao has been the title sponsor of this event for three consecutive years.
The event has been organised for 16 years since the first edition in 1998. The 2014 event was held from 23rd to 26th October in the picturesque Macau Golf & Country Club, wherein 144 golf players joined the game. Guests including Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Mr. Edmund Ho; President of the Macau Sport Development Board Mr. José Tavares; President of the Golf Association of Macao, Mr. Charles Lo and Acting Chairman of the Administration Committee of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) Mr. Vong Iao Lek, and various star players officiated at the opening ceremony.
Participants of the 2014 event included Scott Hend, defending champion of The Venetian Macau Open, Grand Slam golf winner Ernie Els, Spanish player Miguel Angel who debuted in the tournament, three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee, and the only Chinese player to successfully defend the Macao Open title Zhang Lianwei.
Indian player Anirban Lahiri ultimately took this edition’s championship with a winning aggregate of 17 under par 267. One of the event’s favourites, Australian player Scott Hend, and Prom Meesawat finished at 268, overcome by one stroke. They were honoured as first runner-ups of the Macao Open.
