Organised by the China Disabled Persons Federation and the State General Administration of Sport and executed by the People’s Government of Sichuan Province, the ‘9th National Games of Disabled Persons and 6th Special Olympics of China’ were held in four regions: Chengdu, Mianyang, Suining and Meishan. The National Games of Disabled Persons and the Special Olympics of China were held together for the first time.
Five National Games of Disabled Persons advance events and eight Special Olympics events were held in Chengdu, Mianyang and Suining in April and May. Twelve events of the National Games of Disabled Persons were held in Chengdu and Meishan from 12th to 19th September. Altogether 35 delegations, comprising over 5,300 athletes from 35 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as well as from the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions participated in 29 competitions of the Games.
Macao dispatched 13 sportsmen to participate in three events, namely bocce, table tennis and chess. They won one gold medal and two bronze medals in table tennis. The next edition of the event – the 10th National Games of Disabled Persons and 7th Special Olympics of China – will be held in Tianjin.
