The results of the ‘Outstanding Athletes of Macao’ election 2015 were announced and an award ceremony held on 22nd September. The event was hosted by the Macao Sport Development Board and Macao Sports Weekly and co-organised by TDM.
The election of the Outstanding Athletes of Macao is a biennial event which serves to commend and encourage excellent local athletes and coaches. Further, the organisers hoped that by a public voting residents could participate in the event and know more about Macao’s outstanding athletes, and thus promote local sports development. The Election activity presented three major awards for ‘Outstanding Athletes’, ‘Outstanding Youth Athletes’ and ‘Outstanding Athletic Groups’. Other prizes included the gold, silver and bronze awards, respectively, for ‘Most Popular Athletes Online’ and ‘Most Popular Youth Athletes Online’ as well as ‘Outstanding Coaches’.
The elected athletes and athletic groups this year were from the sports categories of martial arts, track and field, karate, bodybuilding, swimming, diving, triathlon, volleyball, judo, artistic cycling, lion dance and synchronized swimming in addition to some Special Olympics items. These athletes had earned honours for Macao in different international competitions over the past two years.
