Upon successful completion of the “2015 Physical Fitness Study of Macao SAR Citizens”, the study results are now officially published in the 2015 Physical Fitness Report of Macao SAR Citizens. The overall physical fitness level of Macao citizens in 2015 has a significant improvement compared with that in 2010.
The Sports Bureau held the ceremony for releasing the results of “2015 Physical Fitness Study of Macao SAR Citizens” on September 27th, and invited Zhang Liang, Director of China Institute of Sports Science, General Administration of Sport of China to attend and officiate at the release ceremony for “2015 Physical Fitness Report of Macao SAR Citizens”.
Better fitness level than 5 years ago
During the ceremony, the Sports Bureau introduced the outcome of the "2015 Physical Fitness Study of Macao SAR Citizens" and the corresponding measures to improve the physical fitness of Macao citizens. According to the findings, the overall physical fitness of young children, children and adolescents (students) and adults in 2015 increased in varying degrees, whereas that of seniors decreased, compared with 2010 results. In 2015, the vital capacity and strength of citizens in most of the age groups showed an upward trend; in addition, both the outdoor physical activities and exercise intensity were improved, indicating that Macao citizens tended to lead a healthier life.
Continuous improvement for the study
In the future, the Sports Bureau will continue its cooperation with relevant institutions through various events and programs so as to promote the idea of physical exercise among the citizens. Evidence shows that the obesity rate rose in children, adolescents and adults; and there was still room for improvement in the incidence of dental caries, poor eyesight detection rate and endurance indicator. Moreover, the reaction of students as well as the balance and reaction of seniors declined which caused new issues needed to be solved. It is suggested that targeted publicity and promotional campaign shall be provided proactively; measures shall be devised to advance the physical fitness of citizens.
Social concern about the report
In order to bring together efforts and collect the opinions from all social sectors in a better manner, the Sports Bureau held the "Physical Fitness and Health Promotion Seminar" on the day of the release ceremony.
