On 20 February, Macao athlete Ao Hoi Ian won a bronze again in the women's youth scratch of the Asian Cycling Championships held in Malaysia. In this regard, Ao Hoi Ian stated, “This was the last year I could compete in the youth category. While it was quite regrettable that I could only get third place, I should have been able to get a better result. After this, I will choose to stay in Macao for university. I hoped that I can devote more time to training. I am determined to strive for a better result”.
There were 30 laps in total in the women's scratch race, of which the total route length is 7.5 kilometers. During the competition, Ao Hoi Ian was affected by other candidates who fell over accidentally. After she fell down, she boarded the bike again immediately and returned to the field despite injury. Finally, among the peloton she crossed the finishing line and earned third place. She won the one and only medal for Macao in this competition.
During the men's elite scratch event, another Macao athlete Lao Long San grabbed every chance to break out actively. In the last few laps, he broke out of the peloton with a Mongolian contestant and crossed the finishing line in second place. However, regrettably, he could not earn a spot in the top three as he lagged behind three other athletes by a lap.
