The Race to the Top of Macao Tower is annually co-organized by the Sports Bureau, General Association of Athletics of Macau, and Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre. This year it took place on 15 February. The event, filled with a festive atmosphere during the Chinese New Year, attracted 600 runners to climb 1298 stairs of the Macao Tower, symbolizing progress throughout the new year. Pedro Ribeiro, a male runner from the middle-age group who participated again after a five year suspension, and Hoi Long from the women's open group won the best male and female runner prize respectively.
The commencement ceremony of the event was officiated by president of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun, vice president Lam Lin Kio, and vice president of the General Association of Athletics of Macau Chan Pou Sin. The runners set off at Sai Van Lake Square and climbed 1298 stairs to the top of the 61-storey Macao Tower, after finishing a 4-kilometre street race. Pedro Ribeiro from the men's group was the first one to cross the finishing line, becoming champion of the middle-age group (C) with a result of 24 minutes 1 second.
