The recruitment day of the Martial Arts Youth Academy, organized by the Sports Bureau and the Wushu General Association of Macau, took place on 21 January at the International Shooting Range, attracting more than 160 teenagers and children aged 3 to 12 to participate.
Activities held on the recruitment day included the firsthand experience of wushu exercise and the sharing session of wushu. Through having participants engaged in simple muscle-stretching, running and wushu movements, the event was expected to inform the participants about wushu and enhance their interest in wushu exercise. Those who had potential could be discovered and they could enter a training class, elite class or join the team as members to receive training.
Iao Chon In, the coach of the Academy, stated that the minimum age of the targets to be recruited would be lowered to the age of three, and a new wushu experience class would be opened. It was expected that through activities in forms of games and wushu gymnastics, young children would be driven to become interested in wushu.
