The Macao karate team participated in the“8th EKAF Championship” held in Gimpo, South Korea from 19 to 23 April. Macao participated in 16 events in the adult category, teen category and junior category, and achieved an excellent result with 4 silvers and 3 bronzes.
In July last year, Lou Wai Kit, who won a bronze in the Asian Championships, competed in the men's +84-kg class individual kumite event in this EKAF Championships and defeated contestants from Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong. Regrettably he lost to a Japanese contestant in the title bout settling for silver. Wong Sok I, who had improved her skill level in recent years, lost 2:4 to a Japanese contestant who was the Asian championships, in the women's -55-kg class individual kumite event, earning silver. In addition, Ng Tou Sam won a bronze in the men's -60-kg class individual kumite event.
In the teen category, Sou Chi Io won the second place in the women's -59-kg class individual kumite. Fong Man Hou and Wong Man Tik won the third place in the men's individual kata and men's -61-kg class individual kumite, respectively. In the junior category, Chan Chi Lam won a silver medal in the women's -54-kg individual kumite.
