“2018 Sports Day for the Disabled”, hosted by the Sports Bureau and co-organized by Macau-China Paralympic Committee & Macau-China Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled, Macao Special Olympics and Macao Deaf Association, was held on 15 April at the indoor stadium and table tennis room in Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. The event attracted around 1,500 participants. Organizations hosting this event hoped that the disabled would be encouraged and supported into engaging in physical exercise and maintaining physical and mental health on the Sports Day.
There were table-tennis competitions, 9 leisure activities, 3 stalls for physical fitness testing, and an experience area for the non-handicapped at this event. The Sports Day allowed the physically challenged, their families and the public to enjoy the fun of sports together, encouraging residents to participate in physical exercise and become more aware of their health. Meanwhile, this event also built up a good platform for the exchange between disabled residents and the non-handicapped. In this way, the event raised public awareness of the disabled, deepened mutual understanding, and shortened the distance between them by helping the disabled and society integrate together. As such it promoted the essence of “A longlife sports and hamonious society for all” to the public.
