Au Hoi Ion, a 17-year-old female member of the cycling team of Macao, has performed surprisingly well in each of the events since she joined the Macao training team in November 2016. Three months after she joined the team, Au Hoi Ian competed in the Asian Championships in India for the first time representing Macao and won a bronze medal historically in the female youth category in the scratch event. In July of the same year, she also won the third place in the women's scratch in the Japan Field Cycling Asian Cup. In February 2018, Asian Track Cycling Championships, Malaysia, she won the third place in the women's scratch event again.
Au Hoi Ian became fascinated about cycling when she was small. Having been enlightened and guided by her father, who also loves cycling, she already learned how to successfully ride a two-wheel bike at the age of five. Since the age of 13, she followed her father to practice cycling on hills. In 2014, Au Hoi Ian participated in the Macao Cycling League officially but she had an accident when she participated in a competition for the first time and a large area on her knees got scratched. At that time, she had thought of giving up but later she could not help but becoming passionate about cycling again after her recovery. Despite her fear of injury, it did not stop her from training persistently.
Although Au Hoi Ian's results are excellent so far, she does not feel satisfied and thinks that she can do much better. She keeps on training as she is about to further her studies, hoping that she can devote more time to training after being admitted to a university and strive to obtain even better results.
