Au Hoi Ian, who had achieved brilliant results in various international events last year, made another breakthrough this year. She won the second place in the women's junior scratch event of the Japan Track Cup I/II 2018-Women Junior Scratch, which was held from July 6 to 8 in Japan, despite losing to Yuno Ishigami from the host country, Japan. Au Hoi Ian, who won a silver for the first time in an important event, stated, “Whenever I competed overseas, the best result that I could achieve was merely a bronze, but now this silver medal is very meaningful to me, which should count as a breakthrough.”
Since 2017, Au Hoi Ian participated in international events representing Macao, and won medals in events such as the Asian Championships and Asian Cup. In early July, she overcame a dead end situation where she could only win a bronze. As she has been accumulating advantages in both physical strength and experience, she only lost to Yuno Ishigami and won the second place in the scratch event which involved a route as lengthy as 7.5 kilometers, amounting to 30 laps. She stated, “I was not in my best condition during the competition. My objective was to break into the best three in both the scratch event and the points race event. To be honest, I was not very satisfied with winning a silver medal only in the scratch. I could have performed better and I could have won the first place if I had grabbed the chance when sprinting.”
