The“2018 Macau Open Badminton-Part of the HSBC BWF World Tour”, authorized by the Badminton World Federation, hosted by the Badminton Federation of Macau and sponsored by the Sports Bureau, took place from the 20th of October to the 4th of November at Tap Seac Multisport Pavillion. After matches lasting for six consecutive days, Lee Hyun II, a senior player from South Korea and Li Michelle, from Canada, won the champion title in the men's singles and women's singles, respectively.
The five most important matches took place at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on the 4th of November. Lee Hyun-il, aged 38, won 21:9 and 21:19 against Zhou Zeqi from China in the men's singles Grand Final, becoming the oldest player who had won a champion title in a BWF event. Li Michelle, who had not competed in the previous three years, returned to the match held in Macao and proceed to the Grand Final for the first time. Her opponent was Han Yue from China. They competed in three rounds in total. Li Michelle lost 23:25 in the initial round, but later she caught up and won 21:17 and 21:15 in the subsequent two rounds, and became the best female player in the match held in Macao.
With respect to the rest of the matches, Korean Kim Gi Jung / Lee Yong Dae competed against players from the same country Ko Sung Hyun / Shin Baek Cheol. The Kim / Lee pair defeated the“Ko / Shin”pair with 17:21, 21:13 and 21:19 in the three rounds, becoming the champion in the doubles. In the women’s doubles, Malaysian Hoo Vivian / Yap Cheng Wen defeated Japanese Aratama Misato / Watanabe Akane by 21:15 and 22:20 to become the champions. In the grand final of the mixed event, Tang Chun Man / Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong (China) won 21:14 and 21:15 against the players from the same region Lee Chun Hei Reginald / Chau Hoi Wah to become the champions.
