Jointly organised by the Macao Sport Development Board and Federation of Macao Sport General Association, the ‘Macao 2010 Sports Carnival’ – a celebration of National Day, the Guangzhou Asian Games and 1st anniversary of the Federation of Macao Sport General Association- was held at Tap Seac Square on 19th September 2010.
Chui Sai On, the Chief Executive of MSAR, plus Deputy Director of the Sports General Administration of the PRC and Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Yu Zaiqing, Head of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR Liu Xiaohang, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the MSAR Song Yanbin, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the MSAR Cheong U, Chief of the Office of the Chief Executive Tam Chon Weng, Director of the Sports Bureau of Sichuan Province Zhu Ling, President of the Macao Sport Development Board Vong Iao Lek, Chairman of the Federation of the Macao Sport General Association Ma Iao Hang, Administration Committee Member of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau Mak Kim Meng, Vice Presidents of the Macao Sport Development Board José Tavares and Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macao Lo Keng Chio, Vice Chairman of the Asian Basketball Association Chen Liqiang and Director of the Federation of Macao Sport General Association Chan Weng Kit jointly presided over the solemn yet lively opening ceremony of the Sports Carnival.
The carnival sought to enhance public awareness of physical sports, and stimulate public interest and participation in sport, in order to achieve the goal of sport for all. The event was held from 10:00am to 10:00pm, with game booths, demonstrations of various sports and Asian Games promotional photos exhibition, souvenir gifts and lucky draw. The carnival was warmly received by more than 20,000 visitors.
