In order to strengthen exchanges and co-operation in sports between Sichuan Province and the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Macao Sport Development Board recently organised a delegation of young Macao athletes to participate in the 5-day ‘Sichuan-Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activity’. Led by Vice-President of the Macao Sport Development Board Pun Weng Kun, the delegation departed for Sichuan on 22nd September 2010.
The success of the Sichuan-Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activity is attributable to the framework of the Letter of Intent on Co-operation and Exchange in Sports between Sichuan and Macao, initiated by the sports departments of the two parties in 2009. Last year, a delegation from the Sports Bureau of Sichuan Province visited Macao for the first time, achieving significant results in sports exchange. This year, the Macao Sport Development Board organized a delegation of 34 members to participate in the second Sichuan-Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activity in Sichuan. The Macao delegation actively engaged in exchanges in martial arts, badminton and table tennis with teenagers in Sichuan. The delegation also observed the training of professional sports teams in Sichuan and visited the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Sports Technology.
In addition to strengthening communication between young athletes in the two regions and enhancing their connection with sports, the Sichuan-Macao Youth Sports Exchange Activity also seeks to promote the development of sports-related projects in order to enable young athletes from the two regions to learn from each other, exchange skills and deepen their mutual friendship via different sports events.
