In order to encourage young people to make good use of the summer holidays, the Macao Sports Development Board, with the aid of the Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province and the Centre for Foreign Exchanges in Sports of Guangdong Province, organized three groups of teenagers comprising 117 individuals to participate in the three-day ‘2010 Summer Activity – Experiential Tour to the Asian Games’ from 19th July 2010 to 6th August 2010. The activity sought to enhance teenagers’ awareness of sports development in China as well as understand the Asian Games, thereby cultivating their interest in physical sport.
The tour was a rare opportunity. In order to enable participants to experience in person the diet and daily life of athletes, organizers arranged for them to stay in the Huangcun Sports Training Base and dine in its athlete’s canteens. During the activity, participants visited a number of Asian Games venues, including the Aoti Sports Cluster, the Opening Ceremony Venue, the Guangdong Provincial Technical Sports Institute, the Asian Games Town, Foshan Shijilian Aquatics Centre and so on. Meanwhile, participants also took this opportunity to watch Asian Games test events such as flat water canoeing, boxing, weightlifting and roller skating.
Through the ‘Experiential Tour to the Asian Games’ all participating teenagers had a wonderful experience, which broadened their perspective.
